Inter University PhD Program in Psychology, specialization area of Educational Psychology
The program seeks to develop innovation processes with educational psychologists as well as other professionals in this area of knowledge, through:
- deepening and updating theoretical, methodological and technical knowledge specialized in psychology in the areas of learning in educational context, vocational and personal development and the promotion of health and well-being;
- the development of research skills to design, adapt, conduct and evaluate studies in the field of Educational Psychology;
- the creation and strengthening of national and international research teams with potential international student exchange and researchers to develop the internationalization of national research;
- the promotion of scientific and technological progress of the institutions involved, consolidating the projects underway in their Research Centers and developing new research, which is appropriate to the needs of the community itself.
The research projects may be in the following areas:
i) Learning in Educational Contexts (self-regulation, co-regulation and socially shared regulation of learning, behavior and emotions, and approaches to learning; conceptions of learning and problem solving; psychological assessment and special needs; creative learning; school conflict (bullying and cyberbullying) and moral agency; ii) Vocational and Personal Development (psychosocial transitions and quality of life; vocational development and life project construction; psychological assessment in career guidance and counseling; new perspectives for vocational psychology); iii) Health Promotion and Well-Being (health promoting interventions [healthy eating, physical activity, sexuality, among others] and well-being; promotion of socio-emotional skills; design and adaptation of intervention programs in domains relevant to health and well-being; self-regulation to promote healthy lifestyles; experiences, processes and coping and savoring responses).
The 3rd study cycle is justified as a way of continuing the 2nd cycle studies (Masters), thus concluding the specialized and highly differentiated higher education in the field of Educational Psychology. It also enables the integration of students into national and international research networks and to strengthen links between professionals and their work contexts, through the mastery of scientific competencies that contribute to the continuous progress of a knowledge-based society. Examples, among several others, of its areas of activity are research in Higher Education and Research institutions both national and international and in companies, teaching in Higher Education, continuous training of several professionals, and consulting.
Access and ingress
Candidates who fulfil one of the following requirements are eligible to apply for the program:
) Holders of a master's degree or legal equivalent in Psychology;
b) Exceptionally, holders of a Psychology degree obtained in a format prior to the implementation of the Bologna Process in five years of training (corresponding to at least 300 ECTS), or legal equivalent, holding a school curriculum and particularly relevant scientist, who is recognized as attesting capacity to carry out this cycle of studies by the Scientific and Coordinating Committee;
c) Exceptionally, holders of a master's or licenciado degree obtained in a format prior to the implementation of the Bologna Process, in five years of training (corresponding to at least 300 ECTS), or legal equivalent, in other scientific areas , holders of a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum that is recognized as attesting to the capacity of the Scientific and Coordinating Committee to carry out this cycle of studies.
