Classical Studies
The PhD in Classics, following the second cycle in Classical Studies, allows for further research in the areas of language, literature and classical culture, as well as the reception of classics of Western culture, particularly European culture. The basic aim of this study programme is to research various aspects of Greek and Latin literature and culture. Furthermore, it presents students with a deeper understanding of Classical culture and its ties to contemporary cultural history.
The production of new knowledge, the conceptualization of complex issues and innovative solutions, the ability to work in a rigorous and demanding environment are some of the fundamental skills developed by the course. Development of original and relevant research work for the advancement of knowledge in the area of classical studies and classical tradition, in an international context.
Access and ingress
Students applying to this study cycle must have: 1. an MA degree (or equivalent) in Humanities or any other area considered relevant and appropriate by the Scientific Committee (SC) of the programme. 2. a foreign academic degree in Humanities or any other area considered relevant and appropriate by the SC of the programme, organized according to the Bologna process by a participant State; 1.3 a foreign academic degree in Humanities or any other area considered relevant and appropriate, recognised as satisfying an MA degree's objectives by the programme's SC; 1.4 holders of an academic, scientific or professional CV whereby the programme's SC may acknowledge the student’s capacity to carry out this cycle of studies.
