Modern Literatures, Arts and Culture

School of Arts and Humanities
Goals

This PhD is intended as a continuation of the eponymous 2nd cycle/master's course. Like this one, it aims to unify the postgraduate study of modern foreign literatures, arts, and cultures that are spread across several doctoral programs and, in some cases, have not been offered for a long time.

Career prospects

With a flexible structure and a unique study plan in Portugal, the course promotes critical knowledge of relevant historical and theoretical aspects of the field of Modern Literatures, covering different geographies, genres, identities and times; aims to provide students with the theoretical-methodological tools necessary to develop research in the various domains of Modern Literature; deepens skills of interpretation and critical reflection on works of art; and prepares the production of autonomous critical thinking and discourse.
