Goals

In line with the first Salzburg Principle, the goal of doctoral education is to cultivate the research mindset, to nurture flexibility of thought, creativity and intellectual autonomy through an original, solid research project. Such is the main objective of this PhD in the field of Portuguese Literature.

Career prospects

All those which value 1) the mastery of cutting-edge knowledge in the field of Portuguese Literature, in its relations with other languages, literatures, arts and cultures; 2) the ability to solve problems and the possibility of redefining knowledge or professional practices in the field of research; 3) awareness of the importance of Portuguese Literature as a heritage.

"Students who are willing to apply for the PhD in Portuguese Literature are expected to be:
a) Applicants who hold an MA degree or equivalent in Portuguese Studies or in a related field;
b) Applicants with a university degree or equivalent holding a relevant scholarly and scientific curriculum that is recognized as such for engaging in a PhD programme by the scientific council of the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon.
c) Exceptionally the applicants holding a relevant scholarly and scientific curriculum that is recognized as such for engaging in a PhD course by the scientific council of the School of Arts and Humanities, University of Lisbon.
