Biological Engineering
This degree has the following learning objectives:
• acquisition of knowledge and understanding of facts, concepts, processes and procedures inherent to a set of Fundamental Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology), of Engineering and of Specialty topics
(Thermodynamics, Transport Phenomena, Reaction and Process Engineering, Management, Informatics, Genetic Engineering and Cell and Tissue Engineering)
• integration and application of principles, methodologies and procedures specific to Fundamental Sciences, Engineering and Specialty topics to solve specific Biological Engineering problems
• development of transversal skills, including flexibility, innovation and entrepreneurship, ability to work by objectives, leadership and team management skills, ability to interact with peers and future employers and/or clients, ability to communicate verbally and non-verbally
• awareness of ethical, societal and environmental issues
The Degree in Biological Engineering Sciences (LEBiol) offers a solid and modern training, that enables working in the sectors of Environment, Bioenergy, Medical Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Agro-Food Engineering,
Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Engineering and related areas in the global market, or to apply competitively for a 2nd cycle of studies in engineering or science, in any international school of excellence.
The main characteristics of LEBiol include:
• a solid and up-to-date academic training in Fundamental Sciences and Engineering Sciences, including a humanistic component;
• transversal training that encourages and promotes the development of soft skills such as autonomy, analytical and critical spirit, flexibility and creativity, adaptability, time management and teamwork;
• training accredited by the Order of Engineers, leading, after the subsequent completion of a second cycle in engineering, to the award of the professional title of Engineer.
