Philosophy

School of Arts and Humanities
Goals

This study programme aims to make its students acquire the concepts, technical skills, problems and basic methods that define one of the most ancient areas of human knowledge: Philosophy. Philosophy tackles general questions about reality, knowledge, language, reasoning, society and action. Different answers have been given to the questions that have been asked within the different traditions in Philosophy, both throughout its long history or in our present time. The desired outcome of this study programme is that students learn to identify, clarify and critically evaluate such answers.

This study programme prepares students for a more reflective life, and to be able to carry out advanced research in the area, as well as work at jobs that emphasise thought and argumentation, and the analysis of ideas, concepts and problems.

Career prospects

Philosophy prepares students for a more thoughtful life, to develop advanced research in the area and also to exercise professions that enhance thinking and argumentation, as well as the analysis of ideas, concepts and problems. Graduates develop activities in areas such as diplomacy , public administration, teaching, culture, research, journalism and content production, public relations or editing.

Many of the graduates in Philosophy continue to study by entering master's and doctoral courses in the area of Philosophy, among others.
