Technological Chemistry

Faculty of Sciences
Goals

The graduates with a BSc in Technological Chemistry should have scientific and technological capacity to carry out professional activity in chemical and associated industries, contributing to vanish the existing knowledge gap between the traditional training in chemistry of Science Faculties and in chemical engineering of Engineering Schools. This course also includes the possibility of additional training in another scientific area offered by FCUL (Minors).

The Technological Chemistry graduates should be able to integrate research and development teams, within the production scope (quality control, environment, quality, management and monitoring of power plants and water vapour, cooling units, and other utilities and raw materials), or in the design of new products and processes, and assume an important link in the desirable exchange University/Business Sector.

The Technological Chemistry course learning process is grounded on fundamental knowledge and aims the acquisition of skills which will develop and enhance students leadership skills, team work capacity, ideas presentation and, above all the operationalization of acquired knowledge. Furthermore the learning process aims the achievement of a broader comprehensive overview of the applications of Chemistry on an interdisciplinary overview, strengthening and increasing employability perspectives. These core ideas being well-defined in the Dublin and Budapest descriptors (area of chemistry) and Chemistry Eurobachelor.

Its also a priority learning objective the developmet of a mental architecture that lead the students to a diferent approach to thinking, result interpretation and structuring inovative scientific concepts.

The proposed study plan sets as main purpose training professionals with a solid scientific and technological training and with a strong component of research and development in the areas of applied chemistry and Technological Chemistry.

The importance of experiential learning, support of DQB and, FCUL pedagogical approach, is fully assumed in this degree that resorts to a mixed system where exclusively laboratory curricular units take place side by side with curricular units comprising laboratory lessons and lectures. The training goals of a Chemistry and Biochemistry Department include the promotion of a knowledge approach to the new challenges and achievements in chemical and related industries field which will certainly continue to be a positive contribution to competitiveness and employability of its graduates.
