Biotechnology
The Master in Bioengineering and Nanosystems aims at offering its students with a formation, both deep and broad, in these strongly interdisciplinary fields, at the interface between Life Sciences and Engineering, at a 2 ndcycle level of university studies.
The Master course integrates the fundamental aspects and the engineering applications in the research and development and industrial production in the biotechnology, informatics, electronics and materials sectors. The Master course offers education and training aiming at the design, production, analysis and application of new cell lines, new molecules, new devices and new systems of therapeutic (molecular and cellular therapies), as well as a hands-on education in cleanroom micro and nanofabrication techniques).
The MSc in Bioengineering and Nanosystems offers programmes across a broad range of topic categories, with a significant experimental component in Biotechnology and Micro and Nanotechnologies. Graduates may pursue a career in:
• scientific research;
• new products in the food sector (for example, nanostructures that have an effect on flavour or textures);
• healthcare, namely in the creation of medical devices or analysis of mass data for medical interpretation;
• designing nanodevices through the use of biological molecules;
• engineering materials and sensors (for example, for proteses or the dental medicine);
• other engineering areas, such as food, biotechnology and biomechanics.
Access and ingress
Only the students that meet the requirements below may apply for a 2nd cycle of IST or to a 2nd cycle of na IST Integrated MSC Programme:
- those who have concluded a 1st cycle degree programme, or a 1st cycle of an Integrated MSc Programme, which do not have scientific consistency with the 2nd cycle for which they apply;
- those who hold a 1st cycle degree in the area of Science and Technology (except for the 2nd cycle in Architecture which presupposes a 1st cycle programme in Architecture);
- those who have a school, scientific or professional background, certifying their capacity to carry out a MSc for which they apply.
