Data Science and Engineering
• To train specialists with solid competences in a subset of the disciplines that integrate Data Science and
Engineering, qualified to address and solve a vast class of problems in data acquisition, management, and
processing and in extraction, analysis, and visualization of information.
• To enable students to integrate work teams, which are typically large and with some heterogeneity and
multidisciplinarity, including experts with different profiles of expertise.
• To engage students in research in Data Science and Engineering, giving them the ability to grasp the latest
advances and techniques and to update their knowledge throughout their professional lives.
• To familiarize students with problems and practical applications, in which techniques and methods of Data Science and Engineering are employed, whether in a business environment, services and industry, or scientific applications.
Graduates in Engineering and Data Science can work in various sectors of industry or services such as telecommunications, computing, electronics, energy, health, transportation, banking and insurance, consulting and even in areas related to social sciences. Graduates in this area can work in any activity that deals with, analyzes and handles large volumes of data for better decision making. Research or entrepreneurship are also possible paths after completing the course.
Access and ingress
Only the students that meet the requirements below may apply for a 2nd cycle of IST or to a 2nd cycle of na IST Integrated MSC Programme:
- those who have concluded a 1st cycle degree programme, or a 1st cycle of an Integrated MSc Programme, which do not have scientific consistency with the 2nd cycle for which they apply;
- those who hold a 1st cycle degree in the area of Science and Technology (except for the 2nd cycle in Architecture which presupposes a 1st cycle programme in Architecture);
- those who have a school, scientific or professional background, certifying their capacity to carry out a MSc for which they apply.
