Electrical and Computer Engineering
The teaching of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Master's level (2nd Cycle) aims to:
• Train competent professionals to intervene in the field of Electrical and Computer Engineering for design, specification, draft, industrialization, commercialization and use of products and services that use electrical energy, borne on Electronics and Information Technologies;
• Develop students analysis skills, together with a critical, flexible and creative spirit that make them contribute to carry out research, to innovate and to become a factor for progress in the most diverse activities and sectors of Society;
• Foster students entrepreneurial spirit, allowing them to participate as business promoters and creators;
• Nurture students ability to act as engineering managers, who motivate and increase productivity in their areas of action;
• Offer necessary educational background for the development of scientific research, while providing some of the most prestigious university professors in the area of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in Portuguese and foreign universities.
Técnico’s Electrical and Computer Engineers can work in the areas of Telecommunications, Energy, Electronics, Robotics, Computers, Decision and Control, developing activities such as:
• Project, implementation and maintenance of communication systems, and respective terrestrial and satellite networks;
• Development of conventional, solar and wind power generation systems to provide electricity;
• Design and implementation of computer circuits to accelerate communication networks and processors;
• Development of fast and efficient processors;
• Implementation of sensor networks that allow efficient monitoring, and their interconnection with actuators;
• Development of autonomous robots;
• Design, development and programming of systems that allow many devices to behave intelligently;
• Development of image processing algorithms;
• Development of biomedical systems;
• Scientific research and development;
• Quality control;
• Consulting and leadership and management roles;
• Professional training and teaching.
