Electronics Engineering
The objectives of the Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering (MEE) aim to train masters with a profile characterized by a broad spectrum of knowledge and the ability to understand and design electronic systems for various applications (communication, control, computer science, energy, etc.). As a course at Instituto Superior Técnico, it also develops in students the capacity for rigorous analysis, critical thinking, and innovation, which are important contributions to a wide range of activities and sectors in society.
Electronics is responsible for most of the technological advances in key areas of engineering, such as telecommunications, computer systems, embedded systems and mobile devices, robotics and autonomous systems, etc. It is also essential in many scientific domains, such as physics, chemistry, aerospace, mechanics, and biomedical sciences.
The Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering (MEE) is designed to deepen the teaching of techniques and technologies for the realization of electronic systems, focusing on areas such as integrated electronic systems, programmable and embedded systems or digital signal processing, as well as power electronics and sensors. However, the flexibility adopted in the current curriculum allows for the choice of various disciplines from other engineering courses at Instituto Superior Técnico (Alameda or Taguspark), according to the interests of the student, as well as the possibility of participating in mobility programs (e.g. ERASMUS).
The current MEE course was accredited by A3ES in May 2021, with the following highlight in the final report:
"Overall, it seems to us to be an excellent study plan, achieving the objectives of the study cycle by providing a solid, configurable technical specialization, which is complemented by good additional training, aimed at a useful and effective integration into the labor market, made up of the productive fabric or employing institutions."
Further information can be obtained through the course coordinator, Prof. Paulo Flores (paulo.flores@tecnico.ulisboa.pt), or the MEE Web page https://fenix.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/cursos/mee
Técnico’s Electronic Engineers can work in the areas of Electronics, Decision and Control, Robotics and Computers, developing activities such as:

• Development of fast and efficient processors;
• Implementation of sensor networks that allow efficient monitoring, and their interconnection with actuators;
• Development of autonomous robots;
• Development of biomedical systems;
• Scientific research and development;
• Quality control;
• Consulting and leadership and management functions;
• Professional training and teaching.
Access and ingress
Only the students that meet the requirements below may apply for a 2nd cycle of IST or to a 2nd cycle of na IST Integrated MSC Programme:
- those who have concluded a 1st cycle degree programme, or a 1st cycle of an Integrated MSc Programme, which do not have scientific consistency with the 2nd cycle for which they apply;
- those who hold a 1st cycle degree in the area of Science and Technology (except for the 2nd cycle in Architecture which presupposes a 1st cycle programme in Architecture);
- those who have a school, scientific or professional background, certifying their capacity to carry out a MSc for which they apply.
