Materials Enginering
Materials Engineering aims to obtain products, including their design and project, based on the basic knowledge of Materials Science that establish the relationships between the chemical composition, structure, properties and processing of the various classes of materials (metals, ceramics, polymers and composites).
The objective of the 2nd cycle (Master) in Materials Engineering is the application of basic knowledge of Materials Science to the development of products, training engineers with competence and skills to design and integrate knowledge in the field of Materials. The course enables the training of engineers with a broad spectrum profile of knowledge in Materials science, technology and engineering, allowing them to easily access and perform the labor market in the various areas of Materials Engineering, both at national and international levels.
Técnico MSc Materials Engineers may perform activities such as:
• Study, investigation and evaluation of materials with specific properties;
• Selection of the best combination of materials for a given product;
• Material testing to assess mechanical, chemical or corrosion resistance, using computer modeling;
• Development of prototypes, processes and products;
• Assessment of product recycling possibilities and environmental impact, taking into account energy and economic factors;
• Quality control, inspection, maintenance and repair;
• Consulting and leadership, leadership and management functions;
• Professional training and education.
