Goals

The main purpose of master’s programme in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering is to provide students with specialised training for designing, building, maintaining and managing all types of vehicles that use the sea and inner waters as a means of transportation or for leisure activities, as well as fixed and floating structures for resource exploration (oil and gas, offshore wind energy, wave energy and aquaculture).

Other main areas include planning and managing ship and port operations that arise from the integration of sea transport in the multimodal transport and in logistic chains, plus designing and maintaining subsea systems.

This level of training is considered necessary to fully exercise the profession of Naval Architect and Ocean Engineering according to the levels of qualification required by the Portuguese Association of Engineers (Ordem dos Engenheiros).

• Regardless of the profile of specialisation chosen, the cycle of studies provides a balance between specialised training provided by 3 specific Course Units in each of the three profiles, and generic training in the scientific area of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, provided by a set of common profile Course Units.
