Goals

The Master in Psychology in Crisis and Emergency has the following learning objectives (knowledge, skills and competences) to be developed by students:

Demonstrate knowledge about the national and international code of ethics and standard of conduct for action in the area of crisis and emergency;

Update and deepen contributions of psychology to research, understanding and intervention in the management phases of a crisis and emergency situation (risk reduction, response and recovery);

Develop and improve psychological assessment and intervention skills in crisis and emergency situations in order to develop the resilience of actors and communities;

Foster the collaboration of specialists from various disciplinary areas, in an integration of knowledge and practices, for the development of research and intervention in this field;

To stimulate in the participants reflection, self-regulation and personal knowledge as professionals in crisis intervention."

Career prospects

"The Master's Degree in Psychology in Crisis and Emergency enhances the access of Graduates to a diverse range of systems within the labor market, namely: Physical and Psychological Health Systems (e.g., Hospitals; Maternity; INEM; Health Centers; Units for the Treatment of Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies; Intervention Centers in Clinical Psychology; Psychological Support Offices in Schools and Universities); Community Intervention Systems (e.g., City Councils; Parish Councils); Systems linked to Civil Protection, GNR, Public Security Police, Army, Air Force, Firefighters, Portuguese Red Cross, Victim Support Association and Public Health and Security Services in several companies.

In the case of this master's degree, we believe that its innovative character will constitute an alternative that will attract the interest and motivation of the students of the degree in psychological sciences not only of FP, but of other institutions of higher education. On the other hand, based on our previous experience in graduate studies, we believe that we will be able to attract both students from other areas who will see in this master's degree the possibility of complementing their academic training and professionals in the area who will see in this master's degree the possibility of complementing their practical experience."
