Science and Technology for the Cultural Heritage
The professional activity of aerospace engineers has been evolving according to the progress of technology, taking
into account the constant social and economical changes:
• it requires a global view of engineering problems taking into account the multidisciplinary nature of the
technologies involved in an aerospace vehicle;
• it contains technological aspects of great complexity that require higher levels of training and greater
interdisciplinarity;
• it is governed by economic, social, ethical and environmental constraints in a globalized world;
• it increasingly uses English language.
The competences that are intended to be developed in the master in aerospace engineering at IST represent the meeting point of a very diverse set of areas of knowledge.
Aerospace engineers must be able to communicate their conclusions and the reasoning behind them, either to
experts or to non-specialists, clearly and unambiguously.
MSc graduates in Aerospace Engineering of Técnico can pursue a career in industries as diverse as the aviation industry, the mechanical industry, electronics and telecommunication, and develop activities such as:
• Planning, analyzing, building and testing aerospace systems, like rockets, satellites and aircraft;
• Scientific research and development (R&D);
• Quality control;
• Consultancy, leadership, supervision and management;
• Commercialization of products, equipment and processes;
• Vocational training and teaching.
