Philosophy
The objective of this study cycle is to equip the PhD student with a set of concepts, techniques, problems and theories that are characteristic of central areas of philosophy, especially those areas that are covered in the curriculum and in the areas of expertise. The targeted scientific skills are advanced level, as opposed to the level of expertise obtained through the 2nd cycle of studies and broadband training through 1st cycle of studies in philosophy. The skills acquired in the course of the first phase of the PhD program are subsequently complemented with specific skills associated research to Research Seminars and the composition of the doctoral dissertation. Thus, to complete the 3rd cycle of studies, it is expected that the student can do research independently in an original way the topic or aggregate of philosophical topics, as well as making a contribution to the current problem state of art.
State-of-the-art knowledge at the forefront of an area of study or work and in the interconnection between areas; more advanced and specialized skills and techniques, necessary for solving critical problems in the area of research and/or innovation for the expansion and redefinition of existing knowledge or professional practices.
Access and ingress
Applicants for the PhD study programme must hold: a) an MA, or legally equivalent degree; b) a BA or legally equivalent degree, and a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum that the Scientific Council regards as expressive of the student’s capacity to successfully complete this cycle of studies; c) Under exceptional circumstances, an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that the Scientific Council regards as expressive of the student’s capacity to successfully complete this cycle of studies.
