History of Art
This study programme intends to deepen the scientific skills students have acquired in the 2nd cycle, both in Art History and in Art, Heritage and Restoration. Our curricular units allow for multidisciplinary learning, so that students may understand these scientific areas in a comprehensive manner. We intended to stimulate: a) students’ ability to understand a scientific discipline as a system; b) competencies, skills and research methods; c) students’ ability to design, adapt and carry out original research, never neglecting work quality and integrity; d) original research that contributes to the creation of knowledge deserving national or international dissemination; e) students’ critical analysis and capacity to evaluate and summarise new and complex ideas; f) communication with the academic community and society in general, within students’ areas of specialisation; g) promote technological, social or cultural progress within a knowledge-based society.
State-of-the-art knowledge at the forefront of an area of study or work and in the interconnection between areas; more advanced and specialized skills and techniques, necessary for solving critical problems in the area of research and/or innovation for the expansion and redefinition of existing knowledge or professional practices.
Access and ingress
Applicants for the PhD study programme must hold: a) a Master´s, or legally equivalent degree; b) a BA or legally equivalent degree, and a particularly relevant academic or scientific curriculum that the Scientific Council regards as expressive of the student’s capacity to successfully complete this cycle of studies; c) Under exceptional circumstances, an academic, scientific or professional curriculum that the Scientific Council regards as expressive of the student’s capacity to successfully complete this cycle of studies.
