Theater and Performance Studies
The PhD offers specialisation in the scientific domain of Theatre Studies; it promotes research in (and on) institutions, thus linking the University to theatre in its various aspects; it grants proficiency in a conceptual and methodological system that gives an understanding of the field of research, questioning it and assessing its importance and value; it stimulates original research on artistic practice within the disciplinary plurality in which it exists (related to literature, visual arts, music, dance, etc.) and in the various relations it establishes with society(in the cultural, sociological, ethical, economic, aesthetic domains, etc.); it helps master a well-structured, personal thinking, and the ability to express it both orally at (national and international) conferences and congresses, and in written essays for (national or foreign) publication.
State-of-the-art knowledge at the forefront of an area of study or work and in the interconnection between areas; more advanced and specialized skills and techniques, necessary for solving critical problems in the area of research and/or innovation for the expansion and redefinition of existing knowledge or professional practices.
Access and ingress
Candidates with a Master degree or legal equivalent; with a graduation or legal equivalent presenting, as well, an especially relevant academic or scientific curriculum attesting to the student’s ability to complete this study cycle as decided by the scientific council of the respective Programme; exceptionally, applicants with either a scholarly, scientific or professional curriculum that can be acknowledged as attesting the student’s ability to complete this Programme by the scientific council of the respective Programme.
