Theater and Performance Studies
The MA offers specialisation in Theatre Studies; it promotes research on cultural, artistic and documental institutions, thus linking the University to theatre in its various aspects; it grants proficiency in handling a conceptual and methodological apparatus that concedes the possibility of recognizing the field of research, questioning it and assessing its importance and value; it stimulates original research and the study of important aspects in artistic practice within the disciplinary plurality in which it exists and the various links it establishes with society. It helps master an academic discourse that is well-structured, with personal observations, and can integrate information collected from bibliographical or other sources; to foster personal thinking and the ability to express it both orally at (national and international) conferences and congresses, and in written essays for (national or foreign) publication.
In addition to awarding master's and doctoral degrees, it maintains a close connection with the Center for Theater Studies, a research unit to which several of its professors belong, initiating its students into research. It also welcomes those who wish to develop research in this area at the post-doctoral level.
Access and ingress
Applicants must be BA graduates and have earned 180 ECTS (3 school years). As stated in item d) of article 17 and article 45 of DL 74/2006, in order to pursue studies in the second cycle, students may ask for accredited of their former academic history if, for instance, they have graduated with a BA of 240 ECTS (4 school years), and/or have professional experience in the field. Applicants must know at least one foreign language.
