Meeting between the Rector of the University of Lisbon and the Chief Executive of Macao
On 26 July, the Rector of the University of Lisbon, Luis Ferreira, and the Chief Executive of Macao, Ho Iat Seng, met at the Government Headquarters in Macao to exchange views on cooperation in the areas of scientific research, teaching, training of qualified staff, as well as to promote the development of higher education for both parties.
The Chief Executive thanked the Rector for his reception during his visit to Portugal last April, noting that in recent years, higher education institutions in Macao and Portugal have implemented several cooperation projects that consolidate the partnership between the parties in the areas of higher education and technology, creating high-quality development opportunities. He also pointed out that the cooperation agreement in the field of medicine, signed by the University of Lisbon and the University of Macau, will accelerate the implementation of cooperation projects between the two universities in the field of medicine.
The Rector of the University of Lisbon said that ‘this visit allowed him to recognise the rapid scientific development that the University of Macau has achieved in various areas in recent years. The University of Lisbon is the largest public higher education institution in Portugal with a long history. The University's research in the field of medicine has been ranked top in the world, thanks to its advanced laboratories and a number of world-class scientific research projects. Therefore, I hope that in the future, the University of Lisbon and the University of Macau can co-operate in a practical and comprehensive way in the field of medicine, contributing to Macao's scientific research, academic development and training of qualified staff, thus contributing to the improvement of the living conditions of the people of this region’.
The meeting was also attended by the Rector of the University of Macau, Song Yonghua, and the Vice-Rector, Rui Martins.
