Information Systems and Computer Engineering
After completing their PhD, graduates of this program are expected to have acquired the ability to:
• systematically understand a particular field of study and widen the frontiers of knowledge with their original research to the highest standards of quality and integrity;
• critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new complex ideas;
• communicate with peers, the broader academic community, and society at large about the topics in which they are specialized;
• promote academic, professional, technological, social or cultural progress in our knowledge-based society.
The PhD in Computer Science and Engineering (PCSE) is included in the 3rd cycle of Higher Education, according to the Bologna Agreement. The PCSE complements the basic training of the 1st and 2nd cycles (Bachelor's and Master's) in Computer Science and Engineering at IST.
Access and ingress
Applicants should own a MSc in Computer Science or equivalent.
Candidates that miss the required beackground in some specific area may still be accepted but will be required to take some additional courses.
Candidates may also show evidence of proficiency in computer science by taking the Computer Science GRE with a score of at least 750 points.
