Data Science
This cycle of studies aims at providing additional training in the area of Data Science to 1st cycle students from the areas of Science and Engineering. The goal is to develop a range of competencies, capabilities, and knowledge which are essential, either for scientific research in the mentioned areas, but also for applying the received training in growing niches of employment for professionals with qualifications in Data Science.
The importance of Data Science is confirmed by the growing relevance of professionals in large companies and institutions, both at the international but also national levels, with competencies in data science, including data analysis, data processing, and data mining, among others. At the international level, a wide range of companies and institutions already employ the so-called Chief Data Officers (CDO), including large banking institutions, state departments, web companies, among other examples. Data science represents one pervasive area of knowledge in today’s information society, being expected that its relevance and importance will continue to grow in the future.
Enterprises and institutions that process large quantities of data, namely in the sectors of telecommunications, life and health sciences, insurances, banking, public institutions and public sector companies.
Access and ingress
Holdership of a degree or legal equivalent, including the possibilities provided for in the items b), c) and d) of paragraph 1, of Article 17, of the Legal Regime of Academic Degrees and Diplomas of Higher Education, published by Decree-Law no. 74/2006, of March 24, amended and republished by Decree-Law no. 63/2016, of September 13. Candidates holding foreign qualifications must consult the regulations in force.
